Eine bewegte Kindheit
Mica Penniman ist am 18. August 1983 in Beirut geboren. Seine Mutter ist Libanesin und sein Vater Amerikaner. Mika verlässt in sehr jungen Jahren den Libanon um mit seiner Familie nach Paris zu ziehen. Dort lebt er bis zum achten Lebensjahr. Dann zieht es die Familie nach London. Mika verträgt diesen neuen Umzug nicht, er fällt monatelang in ein für die Familie beunruhigendes Schweigen und schottet sich von der Außenwelt ab. Die Ärzte diagnostizieren eine Dysphasie. Die Musik kommt ihm zur Hilfe. Von der Oper begeistert, interpretiert er mit 11 Jahren eine Oper von Richard Strauss und entdeckt seine beeindruckende Stimmkapazität. Mika ist zu dieser Zeit Schüler des fränzösischen Gymnasiums Charles de Gaulle. Mit 19 wird er an der angesehenen London School of Economics angenommen, welche er niemals besuchen wird... Er verlässt die London School of Economics am ersten Schultag für das Royal College of Music, welches er auch tatsächlich besucht. Zu dieser Zeit gibt es erste Angebote von Labels aber diese nimmt Mika nicht an, da diese seine musikalische Kreativität einschränken wollen. So definiert Mika seinen Hit "Grace Kelly": "Es ist ein Lied durch welches ich mich über die Leute lustig mache, mit denen ich vorher gearbeitet habe. Alle diese vermeindlichen Bosse die mir eine Art zu arbeiten vorgeben wollten." Mika möchte auf keinen Fall von einem Produzenten "formatiert" werden, deshalb wird er sein eigener Produzent. Er verlässt das College um seine Solokarriere anzupeilen. Er arbeitet zuerst an Hintergrundmusik für Flüge der British Airways und komponiert dann Werbemusik für eine Kaugummi-Firma. Er macht aufgrund eines Radioauftritts bei BBC auf sich aufmerksam. Eine Karriere durch das Internet
Zwei Monate später weiht das britische Radio, dank einer Umfrage auf seiner Webseite, Mikas Musik zum "besten Sound des Jahres". Alles geht also sehr schnell für den jungen Autor/ Komponist/ Interpreten. Seine Single "Relax (Take It Easy)", auf welcher man die Melodie des Liedes "Spacer" von Sheila & B.Devolution erkennt, bringt es an die Spitze der britischen und französischen Charts; Und dies nur durch Internet-Downloads. Zur gleichen Zeit fliegt Mika nach Los Angeles um sein erstes Album aufzunehmen. Seine Plattenfirma, Universal Music, bringt als zweite Single "Grace Kelly" als Download am 8. Januar 2007 heraus. "Grace Kelly" plaziert sich auch an die Chartspitze in Großbritannien. Mikas Welt, ein Paralleluniversum Sein erstes Album Life In Cartoon Picture, welches von Greg Wells produziert wurde, kommt am 5. Februar 2007 heraus. Seine erhabene Stimme, die oft mit denen von Freddie Mercury, Robbie Williams, George Michael, Scissor Sisters, Rufus Wainwright der Elton John vergleicht wird versetzt seine Zuhörer in eine farbenfrohe Parallelwelt. Er zeichnet mit seiner älteren Schwester Jasmine zusammen sein Album-Cover. Das Talent dieses außergewöhnlichen Künstlers "explodiert" regelrecht bei jedem seiner Auftritte: "Ich kann es nie abwarten endlich auf der Bühne zu stehen, das ist eine fantastische Dynamik. Das ist es, was ich vor allem suche. Du bist immer unter Stress weil es so viele Entscheidungen zu fällen gibt...Bei einem Live-Auftritt ist das der Moment wo alles auf den Kopf gestellt werden kann und ich Sachen tun kann, die ich mir für ein Album nicht trauen würde." Eine Sache ist sicher, wir werden noch lange von diesem showman mit großem Talent hören..
